finally writing things down

A consistent practice always encouraged by my friends has been the act of journaling. Not a mindless, rote recollection of the hours past, but a true reflection on the day's happenings, written down. In my typical mercurial fashion, I've entertained the idea countless times, with brief spurts of motivated inspiration in which I'd sit down and furiously jot (funny how no one ever uses that word solo, always paired in "jot down", but let's leave it this way to leave a slight discomfort). And in all case, my consistency wore thin, the thoughts beginning to collect dust.

Things have changed, however. Life has been anything but calm seas in the past few months, and in the midst of such wild change it has become incredibly apparent to me that something I need to do more of is remember the past. To archive it and reflect upon it, create a mirror (thanks Kundera) you can hold up to yourself to see how far you've come. To be reminded of hope in the present and continue in the future. We lose our shape and volume without reminders of the past, forgetting so easily where we've come from. How far we've had to travel to get to the ground we stand upon now.

In an effort to thus fight to remember, some of the pieces of this blog will serve as an impression of a time now past.

Some will serve as an experiment.

Some will be a log of things accomplished!

Some will simply be dumb jokes.

I really don't know what this will become, but I hope for it to remain a running memory trail to which I continue to add piece by piece.
